J. Philip Burt

Phil Burt has been practicing law since 1961, and was honored for his 50 years of service by the Allen County Bar Association in 2011. After graduating from the University of Michigan with both his Bachelor of Arts and L.L.B., he helped draft Indiana's first civil rights litigation and served as first legal counsel for the Indiana Civil Rights Commission.

In 2005, Mr. Burt was the recipient of the American Bar Association's prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award. Throughout his practice, he has represented numerous pro bono clients and helped establish a pro bono assistance program at a local church long before a volunteer lawyer initiative was established in Fort Wayne. Mr. Burt served on the Indiana Pro Bono Commission from 1999 to 2005, and served as the Commission's chair from 2002 to 2005.
